Alert level
As announced by the PM yesterday we will be moving to Alert Level 3 at midnight tonight. We will be remaining at this level for two weeks, with the decision being reviewed again on Monday 4 October. This is the first Monday of the school holidays.
At this Alert Level school is closed for all students, except for those students in Year 9 and 10 who have no other supervision options. The parents of those students who are registered to attend from 9 am tomorrow will be emailed directly with information about the safety measures at this level.
Please note the change to rules for high schools at Level 3 announced yesterday – it is compulsory to wear a face-covering at all times while you are onsite.
Distance Learning
All students (including those supervised at school) will be continuing with Distance Learning over the next two weeks. Please ensure you check the Learn at Home Spreadsheet () and make contact with your teachers via email if you have any questions or need further support.
For senior students in particular it is important you complete as much of this work as you are able to at this time. Any work submitted either online, or in person when we return to school, will be able to be marked and used as evidence for NCEA purposes. Give it a go!
Student Options
For students in Years 9 – 12 the subject option selection process opens today at 9am.
This morning whānau will have received an email regarding how to login and complete the process.
If you have any questions / need help with choosing your options please ensure you attend your Mentor meeting tomorrow afternoon, or email your Mentor or Classroom teacher directly with any questions.
Lockdown tips for parents/caregivers
I know that many of you as parents/caregivers may be feeling anxious about changes in behaviour and routine of your young ones during this extended lockdown. The Ministry of Education has worked with two experts, Dr Hinemoa Elder and Nathan Wallis, to provide a video with some great tips for supporting the young people in your home:
There is also a transcript for those of you without access to the video.
Again, if there is anything further we can do to support you and our students at this time please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Vaccinations
As the Prime Minister has discussed in a number of national briefings one of the best ways to ensure that we do not need to use Lockdowns to control Covid-19 in the future is for as many people as possible to get Vaccinated. All students and staff are encouraged to take the opportunity while we are on lockdown to being this vaccination process. Please note whilst encouraged it is not a requirement for staff or students to be vaccinated. It is of course your choice not to be vaccinated, not to vaccinate your children between 12 and 15 under the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumer Rights.
Take care all in your bubbles – a reminder that Level 3 is “Level 4 with takeaways” so please stay in your bubbles and stay safe. We are looking forward to the possibility of Onsite Learning from the beginning of Term 4, but of course, will keep you posted on this.
Kindest regards
Louise
